We're having a lovely (cr)afternoon here today - or at least, I am. The other two that make up the "we" are the two most-adorable-pups-in-the-world who are in fact currently snoozing the time away. The Hubby has gone out for the day, and I've run all the errands that needed doing this morning so now it's me-time . . . woo hoo : - )
So, what to do first ?
Well, methinks I'll show you the latest addition to my handmade summer collection -
meet the Kate dress . . .
It's a wee bit chilly here still, so for Spring I've teamed it with a long-sleeved T, cotton scarf, jeggings and ballerinas. But once things start to heat up and the sun comes out, so will the bare legs !
Now if you've been reading this blog for a while, you may recall that I had barely done any sewing since I left school (eeek . . could that be 30 years ago already ?). So it was with a wee bit of trepidation, and not a lot of confidence in my ability, that in March last year, I signed up for the "Make Me a Vintage-style Dress" workshop at Sew Me Something in Stratford upon Avon.
And I L.O.V.E.D it . . .
One dress led to another, and then I made a reversible skirt (with a button placket and everything), and then a bag, and then another dress, etc etc etc
and I was completely hooked.
my early works ! |
And now the lovely and oh-so-talented Jules Fallon who designed all these fab things, and who has encouraged me and so many others with her passion for all-things-sewing, has just launched her very own Sew Me Something range of patterns.
They were introduced to the world at the "Sewing for Pleasure" exhibition in Birmingham last month
(I was sunning myself in the Caribbean, so didn't get to go) and Jules has kindly offered one of the patterns for me to giveaway here in celebration of occasion of my 200th post.
(See, I told you she was lovely . . .)
So - which one do you fancy ?
There's the Kate Dress . . .**
3 different versions in 1 pattern |
the Beatrice Pinafore . . .
3 different finishes changes the look |
or the Viola Skirt . . .
completely reversible |
As I'm sure you know, Stratford upon Avon is the home
of William Shakespeare so Jules has named all the patterns after some of the Bard's heroines.
And they're all suitable for beginner & budding sewists. Seriously, the instructions are sooo well laid out and easy to follow.
There's more about each of the patterns over here
Sooo, to win one of these lovely patterns, all you need to do is leave a comment below telling me which one you'd like - and make sure I have a way of contacting you if you're the lucky winner (especially if you're a no-reply blogger).
The giveaway is open worldwide and will close at midnight (GMT) on Monday 21st April 2014.
And if you fancy all of them, the good news is that you don't have to be anywhere near Stratford upon Avon to get one - just pop to the Sew Me Something Online Emporium - they'll post them anywhere that Royal Mail goes : - )
Good luck and happy Saturday - hope you're having a good weekend too.
'til next time,
xoxo
** BTW for all fellow fans of The Great British Sewing Bee - I've just noticed on Jenny Taylor's Facebook page that she's also just made a Kate dress :-)
Ps. Thanks for all your kind and lovely comments about the fabby little sewing machine pincushion and I'm pleased to tell you that the birthday girl loved it just as much too.
I love your Kate dress! I've just started pushing myself into sewing clothing and I'd love to try the Kate pattern.
ReplyDeleteI really want to get into making clothes for myself. I've already made a pair of knickers and a pair of trousers. :) I'd like to try the Kate dress
ReplyDeleteOooh Gilly that Kate dress is right up my street - thanks for hosting! Jane x
ReplyDeleteI love love love the kate dress! Please put me into the hat for a chance to win! xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Gilly. I just discovered your blog over at Jay's Cricketers blog and I am glad I did! I always catch the sewing bug in spring and have been making a few little things to warm up. I love the Kate dress you made for yourself, the fabric is cheerful and you wear it really well. Funnily enough I am just working on a little pinafore like the Beatrice one for a friends daughter. I would love to be entered in your giveaway and I like the Kate dress most. I am not sure what a no reply blogger is but my contact details are over on my blog. Happy sewing to you. x
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely patterns, I could see making several versions of Beatrice.
ReplyDeleteI love your dress!! Very pretty and useful for now and later too - how clever is that! Please don't enter me for the giveaway as I am not a dressmaker and it would be wasted on me, better to go to someone who can make good use of it! Hope that you love wearing your new dress lots. xx
ReplyDeleteI love the pinafore pattern. Oh and all the things you have sewn! Especially the infinity scarf with baubles on it!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Gilly, these patterns are fabulous and your make is gorgeous. I'm not sure I could manage something a real person could wear but I'm just going to feel the fear and nominate myself for the Kate pattern!
ReplyDeleteI love the Kate dress to, it would be so perfect if I win as I have just taken my first ever sewing machine out of the box this afternoon and threaded it up for the first time, very scary.
ReplyDeleteClare x
Squeal...LOVE these patterns...Kate is gorgeous, but Beatrice is just scrumptious!!!!!! I love what your Kate, you look lovely. S xo
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try the Beatrice!
ReplyDeleteDear gilly
ReplyDeletePlease enter me for the giveaway - congratulations on your lovely Kate dress, by the way! I would just love the Beatrice pinafore - I've been thinking about a pinafore type dress for ages, so even if I'm not lucky enough to win, I'll have the option to get the pattern - yay!
Best wishes
Ellie
Your dress came out beautifully! I would like to be entered; I would want to win the skirt. Thank you for the chance. :)
ReplyDeleteHi! I love your "Kate"dress- although if I was lucky enough to be a winner I would choose the Beatrice pinafore, all the patterns are gorgeous and well done to you for your wonderful blog. Xx
ReplyDeleteLove the Kate dress both yours and the pattern.
ReplyDeleteGillx
Wow Gilly, I love everything about your Kate dress - style, cut, fabric, colour, and the obvious versatility of the beautiful garment - you look great in it; very well done!
ReplyDeleteI'd love a chance to win and would chose the Kate dress pattern - thanks so much for the opportunity, and congrats again on your 200th - and one, post, I love coming to see you and all your great handiwork! xxx Joy
Your sewing achievements are wonderful, especially having not sewn for so long. It's lovely to see someone (Jules) making their own patterns, a lovely change from the usual brands like Style, Simplicity etc. I rather like the look of the skirt pattern which would probably suit me best out of all the lovely patterns you've shown.
ReplyDeleteAnne xx
You are clever Gilly!!
ReplyDeleteI do like the Kate dress too.
I made my own clothes up until I got married and then it really became more convenient and even cheaper to buy some things!
I'm not confident enough to cut into good fabric now... make that yet - maybe one day I'll try again!!
You are very inspiring!
Hugs
Shane
Hi,I am Simona from Italy.I m one of Your follower and I want to congratulate For Your blog and the Amazing things you create! Iwould like to win the skirt pattern,it s really gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOoh, what a lovely giveaway! The Kate dress would be my choice. Your version looks wonderful :-)
ReplyDeleteDon't you look a picture in your Kate dress!! 'Tis a gorgeous cut and design. My, your wardrobe is fast filling up with gorgeous makes by you! 'Tis a bit tricky choosing a fave, but it's the pinafore for me. Happy '200th'...may there be many, many more lovely posts!!
ReplyDeleteOoh I'm LOVE with the pinafore dress..Wow I like that it's a little longer than the smocks, but the Viola skirts a close second....Seem's a while since I 'ran up' any thing to wear, but I did use to make many a pretty dress in my 'hey day' eighties...I remember I would save up to buy one exspensive dress that I could just about afford and then make a couple from the pattern in different materials...It was kinda my thing to do then!
ReplyDeleteGilly thank you for kindest words always...Please don't enter me in your wonderful give away though..I've been ever so lucky on other blogs, recently and i would like to give some one else a chance to be lucky too!
Hugs Maria x
I would love to make a Kate Dress. The neckline is just my style.
ReplyDeleteLike you I have just arrived back at sewing. My absence has been since the '80's when I was making my own and my boys clothes. I was inspired by The Sewing Bee. I feel a bit how Chinelo looked when faced with a pattern but would love to give it a go. I have ordered a sewing machine but still have our old family treadle machine.
Big hugs

Look at you! Such a clever lass! ;-) I LOVE your dress! I love that it's adaptable to the seasons, I love the fabric, I love that you have taken off with sewing clothes! It is amazing! And oh, the idea of trying one of those patterns is wonderfully tempting - please enter me for the pinafore...or the skirt...oh that dress is darling...I suspect that I'll be getting all three, from the online shop once your giveaway is over! ReplyDeleteLovely Gilly sorry for not commenting for a little while - life is too full at the moment so I am playing catch up. I adore the Kate dress and have been looking for the exact pattern for a while as Rachel my sewing teacher is encouraging me to come out of my comfort zone. I wear tops like the Kate dress all the time with leggings or trousers as you do so this pattern would be just perfect to get me going. Keeping fingers and toes crossed on this one Gilly. A fabulous post as always, sending you lots of loves and hugs

I think you look fantastic in your new dress, and I am insanely jealous of your sewing talent.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you and enjoy your alone time.

I love the Kate dress but the thought of a reversible skirt will keep me awake tonight - I can turn it over when my girl's sticky fingers get on one side - how great is that? Thanks for sharing with us Gilly. Jo x
ReplyDeleteOooh I love the fabric and the shape of your dress! Well done! That would go rather nicely in my wardrobe!! J9 x
ReplyDeleteTough decision! I think I would like the Kate Dress pattern. Thanks for the chance to win!

ReplyDeleteHello Gilly, I would really love the kate dress pattern ... and if I did win it would you mind offering a little guidance in the making of it ... ? x
ReplyDeleteOh, Gilly, it would have to be the Kate dress for me. Although my inner artist is tempted by Beatrice. No, Kate has my vote, has had since the NEC.
ReplyDeleteBy the looks of your dressmakings, Gilly, there's absolutely no need for you to move in next door to me. You're doing a fabulous job! I love your version of the Kate dress and, if I'm lucky enough to win, I'd like to try my hand at one (or more) of those myself. :o)
ReplyDeleteWow wow, Gilly, love your makes! Lovely giveaway, but plea don't put my name in .... I'd never be able to make a dress! What lovely garments you've made, very talented lady!
ReplyDeleteLove Claire xxx
I love your dress and it has inspired me to start sewing again! When I was in my 20's (a few years ago now) I sewed loads... for myself, my husband and son but gradually I have lost confidence in myself. I am sure that these patterns could kick start me and if I was lucky enough to win then I would choose the viola skirt pattern.
ReplyDeleteLife Chrissie x
