Is it "vintage", do you think?

Thanks so much for all your kindness and lovely words this past week, they are so much appreciated  : -)
I'll be back properly later this week, but I'm just popping in this evening for a quick Stitching Sunday update . . .

I have managed to do a fair amount of embroidery stitching since last Sunday, but it's all for gifts, and I know the recipients read my blog, so I can't show you those just yet.
But I did finish the little freebie Molly Makes cross stitch hoop . . .

. . . and it's now being proudly displayed above the sewing table in my craft room.  My first cross stitch project of this century  !!

(Can you see it tucked away under the shelf ? Not a great pic really.)

And whilst we're talking cross stitch - look what I came across when the Hubby & I decided to have a clear-out-and-tidy-up of our book shelves last week . . .

A pile of old patterns and books from my previous foray into stitching in the early 1990s.
Would they class as "vintage" now, I wonder ?
What do you think ?

I was quite chuffed to come across this one . . .

. . . because this was the very first "big" one that I stitched.  It took me ages to finish so despite that it says 1993 under my initials, I think it should probably say 1991-1993  ; - )
( And if you look closely you will see I obviously got lazy towards the end and just did a row of four little people instead of the more intricate couple in the pattern.
Tee hee . . . more of my "uniqueness". )

But 20 years later, I still think it's sweet and it currently hangs on the wall in our home.

Linking up with lovely Chrissie Crafts  - do pop over and see what other lovely stitchy goodness is happening around blogland.

Wishing you a happy, crafty new week . . .

  2. Loved seeing your pretty cross stitch, Gilly, both the new and the older one. Yes, I expect our early 1990's cross stitch patterns do count as 'vintage' now!!
    Have a lovely week.

  8. Gilly, I love your little rose cross stitch, very sweet, and how neat and tidy your craft room is! You've done a lovely job on your sampler, no matter how long it took, and I love the way you finished off with the four little people; I'd be very proud to hang that in my home. Well done Gilly!
Isn't it nice coming across old mags and books that have been forgotten and being pleasantly surprised at how appropriate the timing is for them to just 'be there'!
Have you done much with ribbon work? Your book looks very nice: I have a couple of 'ribbon embroidery' books on order as I'm rather intrigued by the subject and would like to have a go.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you get up to next in Sunday Stitching, Gilly.

  10. I think I'll get my little Molly Makes cross stitch out because you've inspired me yet again, Gilly!

I love your cross stitch sampler, even more so because you have made it your own ... (love seeing Oonagh on your header!)

I think I heard that 'vintage' can be classed as twenty years or older ... seems a bit recent to me, as I can clearly remember 30 years ago, never mind 20, but I suppose to teenagers who are embracing the 'vintage' trend, the nineties will be the olden days ...

    Love your little workroom too!

    Have a wonderful week

    Love Claire xxx

  15. I am not sure the 90's are quite vintage yet :) But they will soon get there!

  17. Please let's not class the 90's as vintage ... what does that make ME?! Your new cross-stitched hoop is very sweet. I have a real affection for cross-stitch samplers. I wish I'd done one when I was very young and had it hanging on my wall. I've done precious little cross-stitch, and I admire you for producing such pretty results! Wendy x
