I have camped.
Many, many times in fact.
In South Africa. In Namibia, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
Sunday School camps, Brownie camps, Girl Guide camps, Church Youth camps. In fact, growing up, nearly every Easter and Christmas holidays would find me in a tent or under the stars, camping with friends.
And it was fun. Always. And usually hot & sunny.
And I have some of the best memories of these times.
But fast forward a few years . . . and we've moved across the equator to the UK. A beautiful country, but not particularly known for much "hot & sunny".
So, indoor plumbing with hot & cold running water, and a proper bed with a comfy mattress and bedlinen with a minimum 300 threadcount is more my thing nowadays ; - )
But GLAMPING . . .
Now that's another story altogether.
That I could easily be convinced to do.
Especially in the midst of this wonderful summer we're having here at the moment.
All the joys and fun of camping, but with a touch of glamour.
And what's got me reminiscing and pondering over all this, you may ask ?
Why, the delightful discovery of this fun & fabulous fabric range from Moda, of course
: - )
I just love this combination of bright, cheery colours and since being inspired by so many fellow quilty peeps who've created the most lovely of Scrappy Trip quilts, I've really wanted to have a go at making one too. So armed with the tutorial from Quiltsville - the original home of the Scrappy Trip Quilt - and a jellyroll of Glamping, I set to work.
Sewing, cutting, unpicking and sewing back together again {it sounds odd, but it goes really quickly and the end result is fab - and that's what patchwork is all about really, isn't it ?}
I've made 12 blocks so far, and I just love the random scrappy look of them. Once I've finished all the blocks, I'll play around and no doubt rearrange them several times before I decide on the final layout.

But before I made a start to the Glamping Trip, I promised myself I'd finish at least 2 WIPs . . .
So here they are . . . TA DAH . . .
another pretty Tilda wavy cushion
another pretty Tilda wavy cushion
and a Cabbages & Roses lap quilt for a friend.
So, despite this glorious sunny weather and the desire to be outdoors most of the day, I haven't been altogether unproductive here at Gilly Makes... HQ.
And as it's Friday, I shall leave you with a pic of the two-most-adorable-pups-in-the-world, who in their brown furry coats, are really not enjoying this heat as much as their puppymummy is.
Wishing you a happy weekend,
xoxo
ps. An update: I've been sewing away and have now finished my Scrappy Glamping Trip quilt top so if you'd like a wee peek, head over to this post. Oh, and I forgot to mention - this is going to be a Christmas pressie for one of my happy glamper friends, but shhhh . . . don't tell . . it's a still a surprise : -)

I'm still working on my first quilt - I'm hoping summer holidays give me a big chunk of time to finish it, because when I am able to sew, I love it! Enjoy your newly completed projects! Chrissie x

ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful exciting colourful fabrics Gilly! All the very best with your Glamping Trip now that you've finished your wips!
ReplyDeleteThe cushion and quilt are gorgeous - lovely soft colours - you've made them beautifully!
Ah the hot weather is too much for our furry friends - I feel so sad for them - it's not like they can take off their coats and go for a dip! But yes, they could go for a dip then shake water all over everything and everybody then you'd all be cool?! Yes? Perhaps not!
Enjoy your weekend - keep cool!
Joy x
Thanks Joy :-) Our two pups love nothing more than a dip in the water, and the garden sprinkler is a big hit too!

ReplyDeleteLoving all those glamping fabrics, the quilt is looking stunning!
ReplyDeleteLovely cushion and finished quilt too, you have been busy in this heat!
Too hot for dogs though - ours is flaked out indoors in the cool.
Gill xx
Your patchwork projects are LOVELY, Gilly! You inspire me to do more than the little nine patch pillow I made several years ago with the coaching of a dear lady in her 80s. I hand-stitched all of it and loved doing it, but I dread cutting material and need to just GET OVER IT :)
ReplyDeleteGracie xx
Yes it's too hot for our furry friends isn't it? Bella's flat out beside me right now.I take my hat off to you in this heat, completing all your lovely projects.I haven't got the energy to do anything! Last time I camped was many moons ago and we set up the tent on the edge of a cliff. How mad is that!?
ReplyDeleteBellaboo X
Hi Gilly, beautiful quilt! The colors are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHate to say it but I'm not much on camping, did it once, in a tent when the kids were small, they had a ball. Mom perverse a good Hotel.
Have a great weekend!
