. . . putting the finishing touches to my new "vintage" dress
I'm so chuffed with how it turned out and even if I say so myself, it looks way better on than it does on the hanger . . . . but it's just way too cold right now to put it on and have my pic taken : - )
Picture it teamed with a little cardi, a narrow belt and a pair of summer flats.

And at the weekend I bought more fabric (navy blue with large cream dots) to make another one.
- knitting
a fabulously fun flower yarn into a soft & snuggly cowl
a gift for a friend.
&
(yet another) pair of cabled fingerless mitts
These are so super-duper-easy to knit and a great way to use up your yarn stash.
- tidying
my little craft room
to make a space on the table for my new toy
a wonderful anniversary gift from my lovely Hubby.
I did a little "Getting to know your Overlocker" workshop last Saturday, and I'm reading the instruction manual, so can't wait to start using it.
and watching the "Spring" snow fall.
One minute the sun's shining and the sky is blue, and the next minute it clouds over and a blizzard arrives.
Seriously- what's that all about ? Although the locals keep telling me, it's not that uncommon to have snow here in April too.
So, besides the icy cold east wind and the general weather conditions, this is shaping up to be a fun crafty week . . . and it's only Tuesday : - )
'til next time,
stay warm and be happy

Looks like your week is off to a great start! I like your dress. I can totally picture it with the cardi and flats on a warm, sunny day. I bet you can't wait! Have fun crafting this week!
ReplyDeleteThanks, and you're right, I can't wait for it to be warm enough to wear it!

That dress is making me think of Summer already - did you use a pattern? Lovely x Jane
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane - yes I did a workshop at Sew Me Something in Stratford-upon-Avon and we were measured, then had the pattern cut for us. It was designed I think by Jules who owns SMS.

The dress looks smashing as does the knitting............whats the yarn please? its delightful!
ReplyDeleteThanks :-)
DeleteThe yarn is called Flower uni, by Four Seasons Gruendl. I bought it at a craft show in Malvern - their website is: www.knitncaboodle.co.uk.
They have some lovely other colours too.
Happy Wednesday xx
Such an adorable dress! Can't wait to see you model it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Bev - need the outside temp to rise considerably before I do!

I love the dress!!! xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks :-)
DeleteHappy Wednesday, xx
I love your dress! I bet you will get a lot of wear from it once the weather gets nice.
ReplyDeleteI have an overlocker too. It's still in the box though. I think I'm a bit afraid of it. Guess I need to take a class like you did. Have fun with your sewing!
Thanks Lynne :-) Definitely you should try and do a little workshop, it was so helpful and informative, I really enjoyed it.
DeleteHave a good week,
xx
Your dress is fabulous! And oh boy am I wanting an overlocker...you lucky girl!:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendz - I didn't realise that I really wanted one until I made the dress!
DeleteHave a great week,
xx
Your dress is amazing. So very very clever!
ReplyDeleteClaire
Thanks Claire - the workshop was very user-friendly, so the true test of whether I was paying enough attention will be when I try and make the next one on my own!
DeleteHave a happy week,
xx
Have fun with your overlocker, Gilly. Soon you'll wonder how you ever managed without it. :o)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try all sorts of things with it!

That is one 'breezy' looking dress! Very summery ... and the sound of your next fabric sounds great! You've kept yourself busy as a bee again :) Give the pups a cuddle for me please! Have a great week Gilly. Wendy
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy - and cuddles duly distributed :-)
DeleteHave a great week too,
xx
You have been busy and I love all your makes. The mittens look warm and cosy and just the job for our current weather. Have fun with your new over locker . Have a good week.
ReplyDeletePatricia x
Thanks Patricia - and I have indeed worn the mitts already and am half-way through crocheting a matching cowl!
DeleteHave a lovely week too,
xx
Looks like you been busy love the look of you new dresses and it's still looks sos cold.
ReplyDeleteThanks.. and it IS still so cold. Maximum 5C degrees today and that's the warmest it's been all week so far!
DeleteHope you're enjoying some sunshine,
xx
Love the dress. It will look so cute. It's snowing here right now. Really snowing. What's up with that?
ReplyDeleteThanks :-) I know, this whole snow in Spring is most annoying! Hope it warms up soon,
Deletexx
A lovely trio of finishes! Looks like you'll need those fingerless gloves right now with all that snow about!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol - I have worn the mitts already and am almost finished a matching crocheted cowl! It's just too cold here still :-(
DeleteHave a great week,
xx
Great pictures Gilly! Love all your new things!! Soo pretty! xo Holly
ReplyDeleteThanks Holly :-)

Love the dress, Gilly :) and I'm so excited that you've got an overlocker too... and it's the same make as mine, so maybe we can share some tips. I have to say I have a love-hate relationship with mine. When all goes well, it's great, when it doesn't, I've been close to throwing it through the window. I think Mr. Nutt is fed up of me coming in to the shop with mine asking for a bit of help!
ReplyDeleteOoh, that's good to know. I shall make you my first point of call if I get stuck ;-)
DeleteHave a lovely week,
xx
Love the dress, how talented you are. Your dogs don't look happy with the snow, hope it warms up soon! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you :-) The pups love the snow usually, but I think they're a bit annoyed that it's not deeper this time!
DeleteHave a great week,
xx
Love, love, love! Those knitted mitts are lovely - the colour of the yarn is so pretty. I have to admit I'm a little jealous of your overlocker :) I'll look forward to seeing all the beautiful things you do with it. Elisabeth x
ReplyDeleteThanks Elisabeth - I too am looking forward to seeing what I'll manage to do with it ;-)
Deletexx
You've been so busy, dress is gorgeous. Wonderful gift from hubby, I'm feeling a shade of envious green :) xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl- I'm a lucky girl, I know.. just so happens to be our anniversary soon so it seemed like a good idea!
Delete;-)
xx
Your dress looks so beautiful Gilly!! Okay, I bought a similar overlocker, and I can't figure out the correct tension! So, it has been sitting waiting patiently for me to take the time to figure it out. Let me know if you have any good tricks, because I would love to know! Have a great day! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather :-) It helped me to do the overlocker workshop - previously I've been terrified of them! I've got the tension set on 3 for all four of the threads. At the workshop we had to thread them with 4 different colour threads which made it easy to see what each one did and then we could adjust the tension of each accordingly. Does that make sense? If not - try 3 as a start ;-)
DeleteHappy Wednesday to you too,
xx
Love the dress - one day I will find time to do some dressmaking! I don't want to worry you, but I remember it snowing in June .......
ReplyDeleteOh no, please no... I couldn't bear that ! Snow in June - seriously?

ReplyDeleteYour new dress looks lovely, and I love the textured yarn for the cowl! Your overlocker looks amazing....I look forward to hearing how you get on. We haven't had snow here but I was amazed to see pictures on the news of it in other parts of the country! It IS very cold though!
ReplyDeleteKeep cosy!
