One week to go . . .

 We'll be heading up to Scotland to celebrate Christmas with my family, so we just put up a little tree again this year . . .

. . . and around the house, little creatures are appearing from all over the world.

There are these fine little fellows who came home with us from Finland earlier this year.  They've been very patiently living in their box, just waiting for the festive season to arrive so they could hop out and look cute;
and then there's this hairy Swedish lad . . .

. . . that my lovely sis bought for me in Stockholm;

and this frosty snowman who originates from Scotland  (currently charged with keeping a watchful eye on the little wooden ducks from Denmark) . . .

and this jolly fellow who's a local Brummie.  He looks like he's been at the brandy pudding already.
 : - )

And then to remind us of the real reason for the season,  is this beautiful and oh-so-sweet little nativity which was made with lots of love by my gorgeous goddaughter in sunny South Africa.

I just love having all these fun and pretty things decking the halls of our home to remind us of far-away loved ones, and happy holiday trips.

Right, so now . . . here's a question for all you fellow dog parents out there :
How do you manage to get your dog to actually wear,  and then pose for a photo with the fun & frivolous reindeer antlers you just had to buy because they were so inexpensive and you knew just how cute your pups would look in them?  Is there a trick to it?  Should treats be involved?

The Jerry-dog preferred to chew them . . .

 . . . and the Ben-dog wouldn't even look at them.**

Maybe I should wait 'til their tummies are full and they're sleepy . . .

Hope you're having a merry week,
'til next time
xoxo

** I can confirm that no pups were in any way harmed or embarrassed.  Their tails wagged throughout the photo-shoot and they enjoyed the game ; - )

  2. A trip to Scotland for the holidays sounds like a lot of fun! I love your decorations from around the world. We put angel wings on our Airedale dog a few days ago and took pictures. She wanted to bite them at first but we distracted her with talking to her and holding our hands above the camera with treats and asking her to sit. Good luck! The pics of your dog chewing on the antlers are cute though too. :-)

  3. Sorry to see your dogs were not very cooperative perhaps some biccy bribes would do it??? I love those little men from Finland and the sweet nativity scene!!

    keep well

  4. Very cute decorations! Treats definitely need to be involved for the antler wearing. My dog is "very food motivated" as remarked by the puppy training instructor, so we never have trouble getting him to do stuff he thinks is dumb. Enjoy your Christmas in Scotland! Wendy x

  5. Hi Gilly
    Such funny photo's of the dogs. Did try it with Lilou once and they stayed on just long enough to take the picture and that was it !
    Lovely decorations everywhere and so special that they all have such tales and memories to tell.
    Enjoy the next few days of preparations.

  7. You have some great international decorations there, Gilly. As for getting photos of the dogs wearing antlers - speed on the photographer's part and doggy treats on the part of the person who's putting the antlers on the dogs. It doesn't always work, though. :oD

  8. Beautiful decorations from around the world Gilly - the nativity scene is extra special! Your Ben and Jerry pics are delightful - and I think it's much funnier looking at them either ignoring or chewing on those 'silly human hats that Mum wants us to wear'!!! Thank you so much for sharing them, they're such gorgeous doggy friends! Warm hugs, Joy xo

  10. Oh I can't wait for Christmas!! I hope you travel safely to Scotland as the weather is so horrid!! I wish I could help you with the reindeer poses, although it did make me giggle a little....animals must think humans are weird!

  11. I love that all of your lovely decorations have little stories and interesting places attached to them! When you said that snowman looked like he'd been at the brandy pudding I smiled - and I quite agreed! :-)
    I've been tempted by those antlers before, and Rilla would probably behave for them but I've never tried so have no tips :-) I taught her to wear a paper hat once, with a little string that went under her chin to keep it on, for a magazine photo shoot and she was a good girl for that but we didn't end up using that trick in the shoot :-)

    Merry Christmas dear Gilly!!

  12. Hahaha, we tried the same antlers with our dog. No way! I think they would need to be tied on under the chin. Love all your Christmas decorations!

  14. I think the photo of the antlers being chewed is much more entertaining than a photo of a pup sporting them would be!
    Have a wonderful Christmas with your family! Best wishes for 2014, Anne x

  15. So lovely to see your pretty decorations collected on all of your travels, it is nice to have memories of the places that you have been too isn't it. Good luck with the doggy pictures. No tips from me, other than as others have said try food! Or of course your suggestion of while they are asleep!! We look forward to seeing how you get on.... Your nativity set is lovely and so nice that it was made especially for you, what a lovely gift. Happy Christmas. xx

  21. Our dog would just chew them up too. They don't like to cooperate sometimes. :)

  22. Shelby Dog who is about the size of Ben or Jerry just grinned tolerantly at us when my son-in-law perched antlers on her, so I do not have any idea how to help with your disappointment...so sorry. Thanks for a view of your decorations from around the world...the nativity scene is precious indeed! I hope you and yours have a lovely Christmas celebration in Scotland, Gilly. xx
