I love my Book Club
- we're a diverse little group, united by our enjoyment of books {and cake }, and linked in friendship by a variety of circumstances that brought us all together.
One fine day, H & Sh, who work together, decided to start a Book Club and set about doing just that.
V used to work with them too, and so did L.
V used to work with them too, and so did L.
H & I volunteer together, and Sa used to live next door to H.
Su used to live up the road from H and down the road from me.
V & Su have been friends for lots of years.
K & I met at a Pilates class, and her lovely dogs Ruby & Molly are Ben & Jerry's mum & granny respectively.
K & Sh are practically neighbours, and
K & Sh are practically neighbours, and
K's & V's hubbies also belong to same rugby club.
So that's it -
got it ??!
Right, so you see - we're all bonded in one way or another, and when we get together once a month, ostensibly to discuss the current book on our reading list, we always enjoy a good old natter as well.
Oh, and did I mention we like cake ?
So there is always something yummy on the agenda too and our last meeting was no exception.
Delicious homemade scones, sweet fresh strawberries and a dollop of Devonshire clotted cream, went very nicely-thank-you with a jug of Pimms.
And there you have it - a Tea Party sans tea . . .
oh and we did have a short discussion about the book too.

Ooo I do like the look of your book club! Although I must admit I got lost somewhere along the connections...I've never been good at following things like that! :-)

How I love get together a with like-minded friends, whether it be via craft, books, cooking...and, of course, all include cake! You sure know how to put on a pretty spread of treats, Gilly, the napkins are particularly inspiring! ;-) Chrissie x

Looks like such a lovely party! Pretty pictures!! Happy Tuesday! xo Holly
ReplyDeleteThat looks like such a wonderful time. I really wish I could find a book group near me; they have them through the library but it seems like they cater to retirees because they meet in the middle of a weekday. I keep meaning to say how much I love the quilt in your blog header, I need to search your blog to see if you've written about it. I'm planning a small quilt for picnic/park use, made with a jelly roll I have of 1930's reproduction fabrics (flour-sack, etc.). Strip quilts have been catching my eye lately while I think about what I'll make, and yours is really beautiful. :)
ReplyDeleteAll those connections ... c'mon, you made all that up!! Your cake club looks like more fun than any book club I've heard of ;) You can have your book and eat cake too!! Wendy x
ReplyDeletetee hee - like the idea of a cake club :-)

My book group should really be called wine group. We only discuss the book for ten minutes - the point of the meeting is that we all get together once a month and catch up. I look forward to it every time. Yours sounds great - I like the emphasis you put on cake! x
ReplyDeleteI got a bit confused as to whether the "I" person was, say, "Irene" or you. But, as I say to Douglas when he tries to explain things to me "please don't explain - I'll just get even more confused"! LOL
ReplyDeleteIt sounds - and looks - like a brilliant book club to be a member of! :o)
Yours sounds like a very good book club!

ReplyDeleteYour book club sounds great fun Gilly and your summer table looks so gorgeously pretty!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday,
Susan x
Holy cow. I am in a book club and all we do is drink iced tea and talk about books. I can see we need to expand our horizons! Or maybe I should move. =)
ReplyDeleteLoved the tale of who's who!! I was once briefly in a book club when we lived in Indonesia ...... we nearly came to blows over the first book!!
ReplyDeleteOops! We take turns to chose the next book and so far there have been no injuries ;-)
